Burnt Oak, Edgeware

Client: Genesis Housing Group
Architect: Calfordseaden Partnership
Value: £9.3m

Description

The design and build contract comprises the site clearance of a former garage and petrol filling station and construction of a 53-unit development, to be constructed on a sloping site bounded by two arterial roads. The six-storey scheme will provide a mix of one and two-bed apartments for rent and shared ownership, with underground car park and retail units at ground floor.

The upper floors will be stepped back to create a tiered elevation to Burnt Oak Broadway, with a series of private and communal balconies. A further design feature is two glazed staircases at either end of the building, which will incorporate vertical sheets of glass.

Along with the majority of Allenbuild's social housing projects, the building has been designed to achieve 'EcoHomes' standard. During the contract Allenbuild will be working in partnership with Notting Hill Housing Association to provide employment and training opportunities for local people.
