The Newham General Hospital project is a PFI initiative with the building work comprising an Adult Mental Health Unit and academic centre.
The hospital consists of 117 rooms with cafeteria; administration, treatment and staffing areas; conference room; main kitchen/laundry and four lifts. The project provides secure areas for patients, landscaping and car parking for visitors.
The scheme had to comply with all Planning, Building Regulations and Health Technical Memorandum conditions.
The academic centre consists of laboratories, kitchen, conference and administration areas and one lift. The scheme required a high input on fixtures and fittings and due to ligature issues, approvals by the end user were essential. Bathrooms were fitted using pre-fabricated ‘pods’.
